App Start Up


The aim of this event is to establish contact between the Apps for Good teams of students, incubators, investors and businesses, to develop their solution professionally!


March 14th was the chosen day for the first edition of the event.

In the morning period, 19 teams of students received mentorship in design, implementation and app publishing, coordinated by teams from IADE. . In the afternoon, they were in Marketplace and Pitch mode, in front of a group of guests and a jury of Luísa Gueifão (, Ricardo Marvão (Beta-i), Ana Gonçalves Pereira (APDC), Rodrigo Costa (Monday) and João Paulino (Bliss). Then there was a brief conversation about the theme “Are we Educating for the Future?” with José Vítor Pedroso (Directorate-General for Education), Filipe Almeida (Portugal Social Innovation), Luísa Gueifão (, Ricardo Marvão (Beta-i), Stephan Morais (Indico Capital Partners) and Rute Sousa Vasco (MadreMedia).

The technology solution to be funded by and the big winner of the 1st edition of App Startup was Cook Wizard. This app was developed by five 12th graders from Agrupamento de Escolas de Nelas (Nelas Schools). It works like a mobile assistant that suggests recipes, based on the ingredients that the user has at home – in the pantry or in the refrigerator – level of difficulty, number of people and cooking time.

In addition, the solution “Aprender a Vocabular“, from a group of students of Jardim Infantil da Quinta de Bacelos (ABEI), whose aim is to help develop the lexicon of children and people with special educational needs, was chosen by to be developed professionally.
